The Fateful Day: Martyrdom at Gohpur

On 20 September 1942, Mukunda Kakati alongside Kanaklata Barua, marched with villagers towards the Gohpur Police Station to hoist the Tricolour as part of the Quit India Movement. When Kanaklata was shot while carrying the flag, Mukunda Kakati picked it up and continued forward. He was also shot dead, laying down his life but ensuring that the flag was hoisted in defiance of British authority.
